TROPFEST 08 to screen Feb 17!!
TROPFEST 08 to screen Feb 17!!
It's that time of year again when all of Australia gears up for their favourite Sunday film night and head off to the world's largest short filmfestival TROPFEST.

This year the Tropfest Signature Item or TSI for those of us who have been fans of the festival over the last 15 years is the number 8(eight) changed suddenly after initially being announced as seven at last years festival. It looks like there might have been a little bit of a sponsorship problem with the TV stations thus the nuetral 8 was substituted very quickly to allow the filmmakers readying themselves for this years submissions to make the necessary adjustments.

The festival itself will be held on Sunday February 17 at the Domain in the centre of Sydney with the usual pre show entertainment and the red carpet entrances by the cream of Australian Film and Television and possibly a few overseas stars turning up to surprise us.

Hopefully the weather here in Sydney will settle down in time for screenings and we dont have a repeat of two years ago when the massive electrical storm that lashed the city at the beginning of the second half forced the cancellation of teh rest of teh evening and teh awards were decided in a closed screening created for the judges the following day. For those cast and crew that didnt get the chance to shine on the screen must surely have felt that their chances of any success was robbed by the weather.

Here is the running order for the day for those of you who can make it on the day. If you like movies and short film festivals in particular this is one event you do not want to miss!

12:00pm: Trop Jr site opens (Visit www.tropjr.com for more details) 03:00pm: Entertainment commences including DJs, MCs, live bands and other onsite activities. 05:00pm: National satellite link goes live. 07:45pm: Sony Tropfest finalist films Part 1 commences 08:50pm: Interval 09:20pm: Sony Tropfest finalist films Part 2 commences 10:10pm: Judging time-out, 10:30pm: Awards ceremony.

The evening will finish at approximately 11pm.

And congratulations to the sixteen finalist who will fight it out on the 17th. Look forward to more and more success in years to follow!
